The III Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, organized from October 1 to 3 in Mexico City by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Government of Mexico and the United Nations Program Development (UNDP), concluded with the approval and adoption by the countries of the region of the Regional Agenda for Inclusive Development (ARDSI) , which includes addressing child labor among its lines of action.

Within the framework of axis 1 on universal and comprehensive social protection systems, line of action 1.11 indicates the task of “ Contribute to social protection initiatives for the prevention and eradication of child labor, strengthening the actions currently carried out by the Ministries of Social Development and equivalent entities, as well as articulations with other bodies (such as the Ministries of Labor and Education, trade unions and civil society organizations and the private sector) in this matter ”.

In this sense, as concluded by the Director of ECLAC's Social Development Division, Laís Abramo, in the parallel event "Putting an end to child labor by strengthening the intersectoral response in the territory," the actions to comply with the ARDSI in terms of he prevention and eradication of child labor must 1) take into account the importance of strengthening public policies that intervene from structural needs and new challenges, such as technology, disasters, migration, etc .; and 2) try to make the strategies visible and include these structural needs.

Regarding the III Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

The III Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean has among its main objectives to promote the strengthening of social development policies, in addition to promoting cooperation and the exchange of experiences.

It brings together Ministers and Ministers, senior social development authorities from the countries of the region, representatives of civil society, academia and the United Nations System, to discuss the policies necessary to achieve inclusive social development.

In this edition, the Conference emphasized the urgency of promoting social policies with approaches to rights and equality, as well as the importance of promoting double inclusion (social and labor), the strengthening of social institutions and the reinforcement of action intersectoral, between different levels of government and multilateral.

During the Conference, the document " Critical nodes of inclusive social development in Latin America and the Caribbean: antecedents for a regional agenda " was presented, which examines the phenomena that limit the access of a significant group of the population to their rights, hindering progress towards inclusive social development.
