#ChallengeAccepted is the name of the youth meeting, whose results will be broadcast on Wednesday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m. (GMT-5, Bogotá / Lima time zone) in an event promoted by the Regional Initiative Latin America and the Free Caribbean of Child Labor and the ILO Office for Brazil.
In 2021 we commemorate the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor, a historic opportunity to act, inspire and expand our commitments in concrete and effective actions that ensure the rights of children and adolescents globally. In order to intensify these commitments, the contribution of the youth is crucial in an adverse context in which the figures of child labor in the world have increased.
In this sense, around 20 adolescents and young people, activists and representatives of youth organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean, held four workshops to share their experiences as agents of change; reflect on the challenges that education implies in times of pandemic, the experiences during the period of confinement and the future of work; learn about child labor in the region; and strengthen diverse communication and speaking skills.
Leaders former child workers from Argentina and Ecuador convened by the Global March against Child Labor, representatives of the National Forum for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor (FNPETI) and the State Committee of Adolescents for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor (CEAPETI) in Brazil, members of the Colombian Coalition for the Right to Education, the Student Movement of Latin America and the Caribbean (MELAC) in El Salvador and Peru, the Campaign for the Right to Education in Mexico and the Contra-peso association in Panama participated in these preparatory spaces as part of the meeting that will take place on Wednesday June 16 to commemorate the World Day Against Child Labor.
The transmission will be via Zoom and will have interpretations into Spanish, Portuguese, English and French.
