Regional Initiative and ECLAC highlighted the need to address the structural causes of child labor to eradicate it
The Regional Initiative Latin America and Caribbean Free of Child Labor (RI) participated in the III Regional Seminar on Social Development organized by ECLAC, through the presentation "Child Labor: A Trap for Equality."
The joint presentation, developed by Pilar Rodríguez, Coordinator of the Technical Secretariat of the RI, and Andrés Espejo, specialist from the Division of Social Development of ECLAC, highlighted how the reality of child labour in our region is connected to structural problems of inequality such as income, gender, ethnic origin, and territorial space.
According to Pilar Rodríguez, "The fact that we have girls, boys, and teenagers working is a result and cause of inequalities. That is why, in order to achieve the first generation free of child labour, it is necessary to address the structural causes that lead children and adolescents to this situation.
