Interagency discussion on crisis and child labor in the framework of the World Day against child labor 2020
This Wednesday, June 10 at 9:30 am (GMT-5) , the interagency discussion “Crisis and child labor” will be held from Zoom , in which specialists from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), The International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), will share a vision of the current context generated by COVID-19, its impact on the situation of children and adolescents, in particular with respect to risks of child labor in the region and they will point out some response paths from politics to face this challenge.
Julietta Rodríguez-Guzmán, PAHO Regional Advisor on Workers' Health will participate in the discussion, which will have simultaneous Spanish-English translation and vice versa; Rodrigo Martínez, Senior Social Affairs Officer at ECLAC, and Simon Hills, ILO Specialist in Situations of Fragility and Emergencies for Europe and the Arab States, who will address three key issues: I) the health crisis as an element that increases inequalities , the vulnerability and risks of child labor, II) the context of the socioeconomic crisis as a risk factor associated with child labor in the region and III) child labor as a secondary effect of COVID-19 with serious consequences for development.
